Introduced as a special chase card for the Pokemon Trading Card Game in EX Team Rocket Returns, Gold Star cards have a pull rate of approximately only one per every two boxes, and showcase artwork of the shiny variants of the Pokemon on display. A special easter egg introduced in the Pokemon Gold & Silver videogames, shiny Pokemon had distinct color variations and dazzling entrance animations that would scatter stars all over the screen with players only having a one in 4,096 chance of even seeing one. The resulting sense of exclusivity and euphoria any time one was obtained, and jealousy whenever seeing anyone else with one, has been perfectly re-created in these cards, allowing Gold Star cards to become some of the most desirable Pokemon cards ever created. One of the most desired cards from one of the most chronically under-printed sets Team Rocket Returns, this Gold Star Mudkip is one of the first Gold Star Pokemon cards, along side of Treeko and Torchic, to have been released. Showcasing a whimsical design by Masakazu Fukuda, the realistic depiction of the water and bubbles shining in the sun’s rays and reflecting off Mudkip’s back almost causes you to reflexively hold your breath. One of only 39 PSA 10 examples currently in existence, this is one of the most difficult Gold Stars to acquire in this grade making this a rare opportunity to own it.
