At the end of the calendar year in 2002, Topps released a new product called Topps Pristine. The set was rookie-centric but also featured 50 NFL veterans, and it was produced on premium chromium card stock. Naturally, there is a Refractor parallel to the set, with veterans falling once every five packs. One of the leading established talents in the set is Tom Brady, who was coming off a Super Bowl championship with the Patriots. The flip side of his card pays homage to that game, where Brady became the youngest quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl, and the youngest player ever to be awarded the game’s MVP honor. In this week’s auction, collectors have a chance to win a scarce BGS 10 example of Brady’s /349 Refractor. Only a scant amount of edge wear kept this from becoming the only Black Label example of Brady’s card, but as it stands, it is one of two BGS 10 Brady cards and one of 72 cards from the entire 170-card set ever to receive that designation.
