Where English Base Set has 1st Edition Japanese Base Set has No Rarity. Instead of the infamous 1st edition stamp below the left-hand corner of the artwork that is the telltale sign of English 1st Edition, the Japanese No Rarity version of the card is missing the black star on the bottom right corner of the card. One of the signature monsters in the original Game Boy game of Team Rocket, and Viridian City Gym, Leader Giovanni, Nidoking has long been considered a monolith of might by players of the original games. The male counterpart to Nidoqueen, Nidoking and its evolution line were the first Pokemon to have a gender assigned to them in the series, and were the only ones to subsequently have their own independent Pokedex numbers and descriptions. Featuring a character design that is widely held as one of the most ferocious from the original 150 Pokemon, the Drill Pokemon continues to inspire both awe and fear. Due to the nature of the no rarity error and it being so short printed, very few of these examples of this card have survived the last two and half decades, with just over 130 being reviewed by PSA to date. Out of all of these, only five have been deemed worthy of their gem mint designation, with this example hosting a holographic pattern seemingly devoid of scratches and boasting extraordinary eye appeal. An amazing piece of Pokemon history to own, and in extraordinarily difficult condition to find it in, this Japanese Base Set No Rarity Nidoking is a fantastic addition to any collection.
