Released in 2000 by Topps, Series 1 of the Topps Chrome line of Pokemon Trading Cards featured the first 78 Pokemon in the Pokedex. Marketed to sports card shops as something to sell to the kids of their main customer base, each pack included 5 cards and collectors also had a chance to obtain each card in different rarities from their standard forms: Spectra, Sparkle, and Tekno with each one representing a much harder pull rate. The Topps Chrome Series 1 Alakazam is one the most coveted of all the Pokemon in Series 1, especially in this Tekno form which has a pull rate of only one in roughly fourty boxes, with the Tekno foiling matching perfectly with the Psychic-type Pokemon. Featuring similar artwork to that found on the cover of the iconic Pokemon Red GameBoy game coupled with the classic Topps Tekno holographic this card has something for everyone. Unlike Pokemon TCG cards which come with rounded edges, the Topps Pokemon cards feature the sharp corners characteristic of their sports card lines, and bring with them a higher difficulty to grade and thus achieve gem mint status.
