In April 1994, Wizards of the Coast released its Revised edition, the third issue of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game’s core set. Produced during the golden age of Magic, Revised was available alongside the legendary Arabian Nights and Antiquities sets. During this timeframe, the game's popularity skyrocketed, and Revised allowed game players to own cards they may otherwise be able to source or afford. For perspective, the initial Alpha printing of the game had only 2.61 million cards printed, while estimates suggest the Revised set had a print run of around 500 million. This increased supply made the game more accessible to a broader audience. In addition, it allowed Wizards of the Coast to rotate out problematic or overpowered cards—hence the set’s name of “Revised.” Consisting of 306 unique cards, Revised boasted the same white border as Unlimited cards and became the first set of the game released in different languages. Available in English, French, German, and Italian, this set laid the foundation for MTG’s worldwide popularity. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the release, few sealed boxes of Revised remain intact after nearly three decades of attrition, so the sealed box in this month’s TCG Premier Auction provides an excellent choice for any collector looking to re-live the glory days of MTG.
