Fleer/SkyBox anointed Michael Jordan the “elite of the elite” on the flip side of his 1997-98 Fleer Ultra Stars insert. Hailing from the heyday of rare pack-pulled inserts, the hard-to-find 1997-98 Fleer Ultra Stars Gold cards deliver many factors that make ’90s inserts popular—the biggest names, sparkling foil board, and tremendous scarcity, especially in the highest grades.
In 1997-98 Fleer Ultra Series 1 packs, Ultra Stars cards were the toughest pull thanks to 1:288 pack odds. But collectors could find even scarcer Ultra Stars Gold parallels of the 20-card set. Only 10% of the print run received the stunning gold embellishments, creating a gleaming holographic foil finish that bleeds to all four edges. These prized parallels fell, on average, 1:2,880 packs or 1:57,600 for a specific player. Those factors make Jordan’s Ultra Stars Gold card one of his most condition-sensitive and rarest inserts from the era.
