DESCRIPTION

Fleer made a triumphant return to the basketball card industry in 1986 with hopes of capitalizing on the NBA’s blossoming popularity while also filling a void in the market created when Topps stopped producing basketball sets after its 1981 edition. Fleer promised its new 132-card set would feature “the players kids and collectors want most” and shipped the cards from its Philadelphia headquarters across the country. Presented here is a PSA 10 example of Michael Jordan’s 1986 Fleer Sticker rookie. Because Jordan had already established his star status by that point, Fleer’s curators likely had few reservations about including him on the checklist for the once-per-pack Sticker inserts after he single-handedly turned the Bulls into a playoff team during his rookie season and then averaged more than 40 points per game in the postseason the following year. Many Stickers became affixed to school binders, bed posts, or walls, so collectors do not often see surviving examples surface in the highest grades. PSA has assessed nearly 21,700 examples of Jordan’s Sticker, but only 128 (0.59%) have earned the company’s top distinction. Jordan drives around New Jersey’s All-Star forward Otis Birdsong on his Sticker, and moves like that helped lift him to five MVPs, six NBA championships, and ten scoring titles as he became one of the world’s most notable superstars. It's safe to say plenty of collectors will be making moves of their own to add this stupendous sticker to their collection.
