In the late ‘90s, Upper Deck made one of its most lasting contributions to the card collecting industry when the company introduced its Game Jersey sets that featured game-used swatches from some of the biggest stars in sports. These early expeditions into the game-used patch world remain some of the most sought-after cards of hobby heroes, with this 2000 Upper Deck Game Jersey Kobe Bryant no exception. Kobe’s first UD Game Jersey Auto came in the 1999 release and was numbered /8 to correspond to his jersey number. The company bestowed the same treatment upon the Lakers superstar the following season with his 2000 Game Jersey Patch Auto issues. Bryant appears in both the Series 1 and Series 2 Game Jersey Patch Autographs checklists, with both cards once again limited to a print run of just /8.
This PSA Authentic example of the Series 2 version serial numbered 1/8 includes a wonderfully struck, DNA 10 Bryant signature. It also features an enthralling image of Kobe attacking the rim with determination. Bidders are likely to attack this month’s Premier Auction with similar intensity in hopes of adding this rare Mamba piece to their collection.
