The 1997 Pokémon Japanese CoroCoro Comic Phone Card (Pocket Monsters Volume 2 variant) was officially distributed in August, 1997 through a lottery inside CoroCoro Comic Magazine. This card was not an automatic insert inside the issue. Instead, readers had to mail in lottery application slips from the magazine and winners were randomly selected to receive the prize. It is believed that there were only 50 examples of this phone card that were awarded making this one of the rarest phone cards in all of Pokémon.
