Like Michael Jordan, the basketball card industry also had a breakout year in 1986 as Fleer closed a five-year gap in the mainstream market with its first set since 1961. But by the end of the 1986-87 NBA season, Fleer found a glut of its 1986-87 basketball cards had not sold, which apparently caused the company to reduce production for its 1987-88 set. Fleer maintained a 132-card checklist. Because the company printed the cards in alphabetical order, just as it had the year prior, Jordan appears near the middle of the checklist.
It’s generally believed that 1987-88 Fleer Basketball had a lower print run than the ‘86 set, adding even more allure to this already intriguing early-career M.J. Taking this particular copy up several more levels is the addition of Jordan's signature. It's written across the bottom portion of the card in blue ink.
Carrying a card grade of NM-MT PSA with a PSA/DNA 9 autograph, it's a pop 4 in the company's registry with just one copy ranking higher.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 06/02/2026.
