In 2002, competitive players saw a change within the Pokémon Trading Card Game. That year marked the first year that tournament events were open to all ages. Before 2002, only children in elementary or junior high grade levels could participate in the junior and senior division events (up to age 16). With the new Masters League, players 16 and older could finally compete in these premier events. The year 2002 also brought the final chapter of one of the most personable prize cards in the history of the Pokémon TCG. For the nine total events that comprised the Spring Battle Road events, the top three players from each of the three age divisions earned a trainer card personalized with their name and finishing position (Trainer No. 1-3). At the event, winners of their divisions had their photos taken with a folio on stage, which housed the non-personalized version of their prize cards. Organizers later mailed personalized prize cards in the same style of portfolio, along with a letter of congratulations. This non-personalized version of the No. 2 Trainer prize card for the 2002 Spring Battle Road event earned a CGC 10 designation and represents a pivotal moment in TCG history.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 03/12/2024.
