After serving as a “Best in Japan” battle royale tournament for returning Champion’s League participants from 2000-02, the 2003 Champion’s League reset the format by inviting only the winners of each age division from the 2003 Summer Battle Road’s regional circuit to participate. Although scant information exists about the 2004 iteration of the tournament, the Champion’s League returned in 2005 with one slight change to the participant pool. Along with the first-place winners of the junior, senior, and master leagues from Battle Road Summer 2005, the 2005 Champions League included each league’s “Elite 4” from the 2004 tournament circuit. A total of 39 trainers competed in this event, with the competition split into a qualifying round and a final tournament. The qualifying round consisted of a Swiss-draw-style tournament, with the top four players in each age division advancing to the finals. Crowned the “Elite 4” of their respective age divisions, these trainers battled to determine the tournament’s grand champion, as well as the second-, third-, and fourth-place finishers. While the grand champion received additional prizes, including a complete set of Pokémon Star cards and a Champion’s League playmat, all 12 finalists received this exclusive Champion’s League trophy card in a customized plaque. Encapsulated as a stunning PSA 9, this example stands in the upper echelon.
