Despite its production near the end of his playing career, this 1933 Goudey remains one of Babe Ruth’s most iconic cards thanks to its beautiful color palette and engaging player bio, both of which rarely appeared on baseball cards of the era. One of his most popular cards, the ‘33 Goudey Ruth #53 shows the Sultan of Swat swinging his prized bat. The engaging flip side narrative recounts Ruth’s success as a pitcher and his historic trade from the Boston Red Sox. This issue shares the same lithograph as card #149 in the ‘33 Goudey set, though the latter features a red background instead of yellow. Those two cards have a lower PSA Pop. count than the #144 and #181 Ruth printings in the ‘33 Goudey set, with this yellow issue considered the scarcest of the four cards thanks to its lower print run. Learn more about all four of those cards and other printings from the King of Crash’s illustrious career in our Guide to Babe Ruth’s Baseball Cards: https://www.fanaticscollect.com/definitive-guides/a-guide-to-babe-ruths-baseball-cards The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 11/05/24.
