Michael Jordan appeared on four different 1984-85 Star Basketball cards throughout a couple of releases. This 1984-85 Star Court Kings is the biggest—in the literal sense. Measuring 5"" by 7"", it's the undisputed king in the 50-card set.
1984-85 Star Court Kings Basketball was split into a pair of 25-card releases that are easily distinguishable by their borders. The first half of the checklist has yellow borders. Blue is used for the second series, with MJ leading things off.
The image is iconic Air Jordan with a timeless shot from the 1985 Slam Dunk competition. Although Jordan lost to Dominique Wilkins that night, the contest was still a big win for the young Chicago star. It was all about the shoes. MJ put his new Nike Air Jordan I sneakers on display, helping launch the new line that is still massive today.
Because Jordan was the first player in the Court Kings second series, he was on top of the loosely packaged stack. The oversized naturre of the set also made them harder to safely store. As a result, dings and nicks are common while top-condition cards are not.
