2000 Donruss Elite Football, its inaugural NFL release, included the Passing The Torch inserts that featured two connected players and a dual-sided design. Among the combinations was Detroit Lions running back and presumptive NFL career rushing leader at the time, Barry Sanders with then-record-holder and Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton.
But Sanders unexpectedly retired on the eve of training camp in 1999. Since Donruss was thinking ahead to that record potentially being broken, collectors were given the only hard-signed dual autographed card of both players. While the print run for the issue is /1500, only the first 100 of these serial-numbered issues were signed by both legendary players.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 04/23/2026.
