When it came to The Memorial in the early 2000s, the other golfers might as well have not bothered showing up – because Tiger Woods owned the tournament at the time. In 2000, Woods became the first golfer in history to defend his victory at The Memorial in Columbus, Ohio, and only the fifth player to win the tournament for a second time. In 2001, he took it a step forward to become the first player to win the event three times, and until then, no golfer had won three straight iterations of any tournament since Tom Watson in 1980. Woods added Memorial Tournament wins in 2009 and ‘12. He and Scottie Scheffler are the only players to win the event in consecutive years.
