Topps marked its eagerly awaited return to the hardwood with Victor Wembanyama’s first widely available professional autographed basketball cards in its 2023 Chrome release. But that was just the beginning of the groundbreaking Wembanyama wonders the trading card giant would provide. The 2023 Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama set launched Wemby signatures into the stratosphere with an enormous slate of astounding autographs – one of which is on offer here.
The Mercury release included Wembanyama’s first high-end, premier autograph pairings by way of six Dual Autographs. Wemby was paired with six fellow Rookie of the Year winners. But Topps didn’t limit itself to the hardwood, with one of the cards combining Wemby and NFL Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud. Topps produced two parallel versions of the cards, one of which was a Red Refractor /5. This CGC Authentic example, stamped 2/5, brilliantly showcases two players already marching confidently toward the top of their respective sports.
