Pat Tillman is a hero in the truest sense. In 2002, he walked away from his NFL career as a safety with the Arizona Cardinals—and a multi-million dollar contract offer—to sign up for military service. Shaken by the horrific events of 9-11, he was moved to do his part. Tillman went on to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan before being killed in atragic accident in 2004.
In the decades since, he has been celebrated and memorialized on a variety of football cards including this 2020 Donruss Optic Downtown. While Downtown inserts typically opt for a sense of fun, this card is special. It's acts as a true tribute to Tillman, honoring both his play on the field and his service to his country. He's illustrated in both of his uniforms.
