1996-97 Bowman's Best Basketball features one of the most popular base Kobe Bryant rookie cards. One of just three chromium sets from his rookie season, it includes just two parallels, Refractors and Atomic Refractors, such as this. While the 1:24 hobby and 1:40 retail pack odds may not sound tough, once you factor in the set size, it becomes clear that this card was an exceptionally rare pull. All 125 base cards have the patterned parallels. With 24 packs per hobby box, the odds of finding a Bryant or any other card would be 1:3,000 packs or 1:125 boxes.
Instead of a basic reflective rainbow background, the 1996-97 Bowman's Best Atomic Refractors have a repeating square pattern running through them. When shone under bright light, it's nothing short of mesmerizing.
