Prior to the Chinese Sun & Moon era, the Pokémon TCG only had two official sets printed in Traditional Chinese. The first expansion, Base Set, came in 2000, a full year after the set’s English release and almost half a decade after the TCG debuted in Japan. Produced by Wizards of the Coast and distributed by Hasbro Hong Kong, the Chinese Base Set did not reach Mainland China, instead circulating in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Six years later, Pokémon USA, Inc. released a Traditional Chinese version of EX Legend Maker to celebrate the grand opening of the PokéPark theme park in Taiwan. From 2006 to ’19, all sets released in Taiwan and Hong Kong were printed in English before the Pokémon Company localized the TCG back to Traditional Chinese with the 2019 All Stars Collection. Thanks to the Pokémon TCG’s unique history in China, 1st Edition booster boxes of the Chinese Base Set remain highly desirable. Despite featuring a red variation of the Pokémon logo on its booster boxes, the Chinese Base Set is virtually identical to its English and Japanese-language counterparts. Therefore, collectors can expect to find the same iconic, high-value holofoils that have made this set so coveted. Of the 157 1st Edition Chinese Charizard cards graded by PSA, only one has earned the company’s highest designation. With 36 packs inside this sealed box, collectors have no shortage of chances to pull untouched examples of some of the most sought-after Chinese Pokémon cards produced. Could this box contain the second PSA 10 1st Edition Chinese Base Set Charizard in existence? Only the winning bidder will have the chance to find out.
