As computers and the Internet gained widespread acceptance in the late 1990s, trading card manufacturers began weaving technological references onto their cards. That concept is perfectly demonstrated on cards such as Michael Jordan’s 1998-99 Flair Showcase Basketball /1000 takeit2.net insert card. Serving as a tribute following his second retirement from the NBA, Jordan’s takeit2.net insert marks his lone appearance in the third and final edition of the tiered Flair Showcase brand.
Jordan drives toward the basket for a finger-roll layup on this card, and designers plastered his cut-out image over a background designed like a computer’s motherboard. Across the top, Fleer/SkyBox imitated an email address by printing “[email protected].” The creative writers even included a primitive emoji (:<) on the flip side to reflect the sadness felt by Jordan’s retirement on January 13, 1999. All those characteristics combine to create a collecting experience that harkens back to a specific era of both life and collecting, making this Jordan an addition worth logging on for.
This particular copy has the added prestige of being graded a Gem Mint PSA 10.
