Basketball cards entered a period without packs in the years between Topps stepping away after 1981-82 and Fleer bringing them back in 1986-87. Beginning in 1984-85, Star stepped in to produce NBA cards, typically distributing them in polybags as team sets or other special releases. For decades, these cards were both repsected and treated with a sort of oddball status as they didn't adhere to the rigid definitions that were prevalent in the hobby at the time. However, it was hard to ignore the large number of basketball icons getting their earliest cards in these Star sets, most notably Michael Jordan.
This 1985 Star Crunch N Munch All-Stars Michael Jordan predates his mainstream 1986-87 Fleer rookie card. Part of a 11-card checklist highlighting players from the 1985 All-Star Game, it's a rare early MJ with a print run that's estimated to be 3,000 copies.
Just two copies in the PSA registry have a higher grade than this NM-MT 8.
