While baseball cards such as those from the famous 1909-1911 T206 set garner much of the pre-war attention, similar releases also hit the ice in the early part of the 20th century. One such set was the 1911 C55 hockey set, which is widely believed to be a production of the Imperial Tobacco in Canada. However, unlike other releases from the period, the company isn’t advertised on the backs of the cards. And while the reverse side of these issues is indeed interesting, it’s of course the players on the front that matter most. And none in the set matter more than Georges Vezina.
The iconic goaltender’s rookie stands as one of the most famous hockey printings of all time, with this offering one of the finest known examples. This is one of four to earn an SGC 8 grade, with only two graded higher. For further context, there is only one PSA 8 with none graded higher. Bold colors on the front and sharp text on the back provide a clear opportunity to add one of the most storied printings in hockey collecting history to your collection. Expect plenty of bidders to hop over the boards and hit the bidding ice in an effort to score this goalie great’s legendary rookie.
