While 1/1 parallels are commonplace today, in the late '90s they were still a novelty. Fleer helped pioneer the concept of the minimum print run with parallels such as the Masterpiece Edition cards they included in their popular Ultra releases. The concept made its way to the diamond in 1998, with the company producing a 1/1 version of each of the 451 cards that comprised that year’s two-series Ultra set. As one of the biggest stars of his generation, Cal Ripken Jr. appeared four times in the selection of 451 cards. With two other Cal ‘98 Ultra Masterpieces selling on Fanatics Collect last month, your opportunity to land one of these Ripken rarities is getting harder than keeping the legendary shortstop out of the lineup in his prime.
