2000-01 Fleer Showcase Basketball marked a big departure of where the brand had been a couple of years earlier under the Flair Showcase banner. Although still a premium product for the time, the tiered base set and multi-photo fronts were discontinued, making for a more conventional base set. However, one major piece that carried over was the product's Legacy Collection parallels. However, even these are different from past installments.
1990s Flair Showcase Legacy Collection cards were typically numbered /100 and used slight foil alterations. For 2000-01 Fleer Showcase Basketball, the parallels landed with a significantly smaller print run numbered /50. Instead of highlights, the borders and background are changed to gold, helping them stand out versus their base counterparts.
This Kobe Bryant Legacy Collection carries some added appeal. Numbered 24/50, it's not an exact jersey match based on what the Lakers legend was wearing at the time. However, it is the number that Bryant would change to for the second half of his career starting in 2006-07.
