Released in January of 1999 with a 102-card checklist (103 if you count both the red- and yellow-cheeked Pikachus), the 1st Edition printing of the Pokémon English Base Set was absorbed so quickly into the market that distribution was mostly limited to the west coast of North America. Featuring fan favorite cards such as the Pikachu and Charizard issues illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita and the Blastoise and Venusaur illustrations by Ken Sugimori, this is arguably the most universally recognized Pokémon product of all time and remains the benchmark nearly 25 years later.
Sealed 1st Edition booster boxes don't often appear in the collecting wild, much less ones preserved as well as this. Here is a rare opportunity to procure a piece of Pokémon history, one that was hard enough to source upon release in 1999 – and all the more difficult to track down now.
