When Shohei Ohtani first signed with the Los Angeles Angels, expectations were high. For virtually everybody alive, the idea of a two-way player was limited to reading stories about Babe Ruth or watching a fielder take to the mound in a blowout. But Ohtani was built differently. He could hit, pitch and field—all at an elite level. Injuries slowed him somewhat for his first couple of seasons but then immortality to hold. Ohtani truly is unlike any player who came before him. Already a two-time World Series Champion, a frontrunner for his fourth MVP award and the founding member of the 50/50 Club, that is really just the beginning of Ohtani's accolades.
Ohtani's first Bowman cards are in 2018 Bowman Baseball where he has both a base card and a Chrome Rookie Autograph. However, it wasn't until the release of 2018 Bowman Chrome Baseball that he got his first base Refractor under the brand's banner. Numbered /499, this Refractor is one of eight parallels the card has. Unlike his regular Bowman card that pictures Ohtani on the mound, Bowman Chrome uses a batting photo, something that many collectors prefer.
