Among the first Pokémon cards ever released, Topsun cards were released in Japan by Top-Seika in packs of their chewing gum in the late 1990s. Collectors would receive two cards randomly inserted inside their packs of gum featuring artwork by legendary Pokémon illustrator Ken Sugimori. Featured here, is the Charizard Prism card, which is the most sought after card in the set.
These cards were printed on stock similar to a sticker raather than the normal cardboard cardstock used on most Pokémon cards. As a result, these cards are much more condition sensitive, and finding one in perfect condition is next to impossible today. With this Charizard being graded CGC Perfect, this card is a CGC pop 1. It will remain this way because CGC no longer offers their Perfect designation.
In addition to the condition sensitive cardstock used on these cards, these cards were also some of the toughest cards to pull in early Pokémon. It is estimated that only one pack per box contained Prism cards.
