Contenders, beginning strictly as a football product in 1998 with Donruss Playoff, was acquired and added as a basketball product by Panini in 2009 – the year the company gained its license to produce NBA cards. The set was discontinued in basketball following the 2012 release and did not return as an officially licensed product until 2017, which coincides with Tatum’s rookie year. The classic Contenders ticket stub design and clean acetate surface make this an especially appealing issue for the star’s collectors. Add in a PSA 10 grade and a Gold parallel limited to just 10 and you get a piece for which plenty of bidders will be contending.
