Panini changed the basketball collecting game in 2012-13. That year, the company debuted its now-beloved Prizm product, the first full chrome-covered hoops set to hit the shelves since Topps’s 2008-09 Chrome release. Filled with rookies, stars, parallels, and inserts, the set has skyrocketed in popularity through the years thanks to its sleek design, player selection, shiny chrome borders, and the fact it was Panini’s inaugural Prizm release.
While today’s Prizm products can contain 60+ Prizm parallels, that initial effort featured just three: Prizms, Green Prizms, and the coveted Gold Prizms. The latter of those was the only serial-numbered parallel. With a print run of just /10, 2012-13 Gold Prizms are now some of the most celebrated cards in modern hoops history.
That modest parallel rainbow extended beyond the base set to the product’s range of inserts, one of which was the 25-card MVP set. Among the players honored in the set is Kobe Bryant who finally won the award in 2008-09.
In addition to the set's legacy, minimalist design and featured star power, the Gold backdrop makes this one of the most beautiful Prizm cards ever produced.
