But determined to add the 5-foot-10 dynamo, the Panthers orchestrated a massive trade with the Chicago Bears to bring Young to Carolina and begin the turnaround of a franchise that has not made the playoffs since 2017. Statistically, Young and the Panthers struggled throughout 2023, but many experts saw silver linings in Young’s performance—specifically when it comes to his accuracy. He completed 59.8% of his passes, the seventh-best mark among rookies who made at least 500 attempts, while his ten interceptions are the lowest total among the same group. Whether Young can do the same remains to be seen, but one opposing coach believes his name will remain relevant for years to come. “Poise in the pocket, he can throw on a dime, he’s very athletic, he can move in the pocket—not just to run but to throw as well,” said Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles. “He’s very patient. He’s one of the best scramblers I’ve seen this year.
