In many ways, Upper Deck's Game Jersey offerings of the late-'90s laid the foundation for the company's groundbreaking Exquisite Collection product that would debut in 2003. As such, the Michael Jordan signed Game Jersey issues of the era stand as some of his most popular printings amongst serious M.J. collectors. This 1998 Game Jersey Autograph #SPx-GJ is a pop 2 with only one higher. It is one of the most coveted late-'90s Jordans ever produced.
In the late ‘90s, Upper Deck made one of its most lasting contributions to the card collecting industry when the company introduced its Game Jersey sets that featured game-used swatches from some of the biggest stars in sports. These early expeditions into the game-used patch world remain some of the most sought-after cards of hobby heroes, none of whom loom larger with collectors than Michael Jordan.
Following up its first edition of M.J. Game Jersey cards in 1997, which included His Airness’ signature alongside the prized jersey swatch, UD returned the following year with another stunning selection. Six Michael Jordan Game Jersey Autographs were seeded throughout six of the company’s 1998-99 releases – Series 1 and Series 2 of its flagship product, Ovation, SPx Finite, MJx, and Michael Jordan - Living Legend. Each included a piece of game-worn Bulls jersey from the 1992-93 season during which the Bulls capped off their first three-peat. Jordan also hand-signed the cards. The 23 copies of this card, #SPx-GJ, were randomly inserted into packs of SPx Finite.
