Shohei Ohtani became a name in North America upon his arrival in MLB in 2018. In his home country of Japan, though, he was a superstar long before that. His baseball cards debut dates back to 2013.
Although not the only company making baseball cards in the country at the time, BBM offered the most robust slate of Japanese Ohtani cards. This wasn't limited to just traditional pack-based products. BBM produced some promotional cards as well, such as the 2013 Family Series Kamagaya Stadium Ohtani. The front uses the same photo and general design as his popular 1st Version rookie. Instead of red, the nameplate on the front is green. A shot of Ohtani batting is on the back.
The card was given out during a promotion with the minor league team in Kamagaya.
This NM-MT+ 8.5 is one of just 20 total copies of the card graded by SGC. PSA has assessed it just 119 copies. So while the exact number of cards produced remains unknown, these pop reports suggest it is rare.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 05/26/2026.
