To label Shohei Ohtani ""above average"" might not be wrong but it certainly downplays his immense skill and historic accomplishments. To label this card ""above average"" is also a disservice.
When it comes to Ohtani's earliest cards, this 2013 BBM Classic Above Average ranks as one of the very best. It's also, arguably, the most attractive. The dual-photo layout evokes a similar feeling as late 1990s Flair Showcase sets, some of the most beloved of the era. The fireworks pattern running through the background adds some additional flair of its own. The photo choice is also important. The color shot in the front has Ohtani batting. The close-up in the background comes from while he's pitching. This makes the card one of the first to showcase both sides of Ohtani's tremendous skillset.
Numbered /75, it's one of the rarest 2013 Ohtani cards—his rookie season in Japan.
Just four copies in the PSA registry rank higher than this Mint 9.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 05/26/2026.
