In 2013, Panini Creative Director Brandon Lesley contacted Hungarian illustrator Gyula Nemeth to draw the NBA players selected for a 20-card insert for Panini’s Innovation Basketball set. Nemeth responded by creating one of the most unforgettable card series in industry history: the stunning pop art collection of Kaboom! cards. A combination of scarcity, unique typography, original illustrations, and high-flying dunking poses featured on each card in the series made it an instant classic.
These cards, later moved to Panini's Crown Royale product, still rank among the most popular and difficult hits in the hobby, especially the serial-numbered Gold parallel versions.
This 2022-23 Panini Crown Royale Kaboom Gold LeBron James is numbered 09/10. Already an incredibly popular release, the gold background adds a team color match appeal.
