Typically, the most valuable inserts come from premium sets. Slam Bams are anything but typical. Serial numbered /100, rarity is built in to the 1998-99 Hoops Slam Bams Shaquille O'Neal, one of the center's most iconic insert cards. Since its debut, Hoops was considered an entry level product that wasn't usually targeting rare, high value cards. Prices may not have been a consideration during production, but the scarcity was.
The numbering isn't the card's only measure of scarcity. Copies rarely surface on the secondary market today. PSA's population report for the set reflects this as well. Just nine copies of O'Neal's card have been graded by them. Pool all 10 Slam Bams together and less than 60 total are available in PSA slabs.
The inserts are also notoriously condition sensitive with its delicate foil front surface and fragile corner tips. Slam Bams were exclusive to 1998-99 Hoops hobby packs.
