Tom Brady did not capture the imaginations of NFL scouts going into the 2000 NFL Draft, and he watched teams pick six quarterbacks and 192 other players before the Patriots called him with the news that they would select him 199th overall. With his sixth-round draft status came fewer flashy photo shoots, fewer prickly interview questions, and fewer hand cramps from signing rookie cards—making Brady’s 2000 Playoff Contenders Rookie Ticket Auto an even more significant card than anyone could have imagined when it was released. Brady only appeared in 11 mainstream autograph sets in 2000 (for comparison, quarterback Chad Pennington, who the Jets picked in the first round, has five times as many), and only one product included rookie autos that feature Brady in his Patriots uniform—2000 Playoff Contenders. Rookie Ticket Autos have existed for a quarter of a century, but no other player’s card from the annual release has maintained as much popularity as Brady’s. Upon its January 2001 release, many collectors probably considered the card an afterthought, perhaps even a disappointment, but one year later, it became a must-have as Brady led the Patriots to his first of seven Super Bowl championships. Of the more than 675 times BGS has assessed this card, just 15 copies have a higher grade than this Mint 9. The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 03/18/2026.
