When Shohei Ohtani first signed with the Los Angeles Angels, expectations were high. For virtually everybody alive, the idea of a two-way player was limited to reading stories about Babe Ruth or watching a fielder take to the mound in a blowout. But Ohtani was built differently. He could hit, pitch and field—all at an elite level. Injuries slowed him somewhat for his first couple of seasons but then immortality to hold. Ohtani truly is unlike any player who came before him. Already a two-time World Series Champion, four-time MVP and the founding member of the 50/50 Club, that is really just the beginning of Ohtani's accolades.
2018 Topps Gallery Baseball wasn't as widely available in some regards as a lot of other products that season that included Ohtani autographs. The art-focused set was a Walmart-exclusive release that offered a steady flow of signatures. Ohtani was among the more than 110 players to sign for the product.
