One of Fleer/SkyBox’s leading innovations from the mid-1990s was its Metal Universe sets. Featuring comic-book-style themes developed by in-house Marvel designers, the revolutionary foil-etched set quickly became a favorite among collectors—as did the 1997 edition’s Red and Green Precious Metal Gems parallels. Each player on the 198-card checklist has 150 PMG cards, with the final 135 of each print run washed out in ruby red foil.
The same thing that makes these cards so coveted – that gorgeous foiling – is also why they're so difficult to find in top condition thanks to the cards often experiencing scratches and chips. This Mint 9 is a pop 1 in the BGS registry with none ranking higher. With PSA having not graded a copy above a NM-MT 8, this may very well be the best one in existence.
Fleer/SkyBox paid tribute to Emmitt's status as one of the NFL’s top running backs by strapping a jetpack to his back and implying that he had enough speed and determination to keep pace with jet planes zooming through the background, making his card one of the most unique in the set. Bidders are likely to move at a similar speed to try to add this amazing printing of one of the greatest running backs of all time to their collection.
