In the 1930s, the World Wide Gum Company was the Canadian affiliate of the Goudey Company. Thus, Goudey’s baseball cards were distributed in Canada under the World Wide Gum moniker. That’s why any collector familiar with the four iconic 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth cards will also certainly be familiar with the lithograph on the front of this issue – the same imagery used on card #53 of the 1933 Goudey set. The back of the card offers the clearest mark of delineation between the 1933 Goudey version and the 1934 World Wide Gum printing, with the latter sporting card #28 and World Wide Gum Co. branding on the bottom.
While the 1933 Goudey #53 is better known, the 1934 World Wide Gum #28 is in much shorter supply. PSA has only graded less than 90 examples of the latter, while the ‘33 Goudey #53 has been assessed more than 1,250 times.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 08/15/2025.
