The 1981-82 Topps Larry Bird #4 card celebrates the Boston hero's achievements, including his first All-Star game. But equally important is the fact it marks Bird’s first solo appearance on a Topps card as he shared the cardboard stage with Magic and Dr. J on their famous 1980 tri-panel issue. The card is also significant because after this set, Topps stopped making basketball cards for the next decade, not returning to the hardwood until 1992.
Finding this issue in a PSA 10 holder is about as rare as shutting down Bird for a full 48 minutes. Of the nearly 12,900 examples assessed by PSA, only 0.5% have earned a PSA 10 grade. It's a gem rate befitting the rare talents Bird possessed throughout his legendary career. But this particular copy goes even further. It has a 10-grade signature as well.
In fact, this is the only 1981-82 Topps Larry Bird to have both a PSA 10 card grade and a PSA/DNA 10 autograph grade. When it comes to the top autographed copies of Bird's second-year card, this is it.
