Upper Deck changed the game in 1996 with the debut of its SPx basketball set – the first all-Holoview base set and the first to feature die-cutting on all four borders. Michael Jordan was, of course, the main attraction of the set. That was no different in the follow-up 1997 release, from which this enticing specimen originates. Signed and limited to 100 copies, Upper Deck’s 1997 SPx Pro Motion Holo Auto cards were printed on a heavier card stock and have an attractive horizontal design that deviated from the ‘96 Holo Die-Cut issues. As you rotate this card, the images animate as if you are watching them on video, adding an element that separates this heavy-hitting holo from many other M.J. inserts and parallels of the era. These Pro Motion pieces continue to turn heads in the rare instances they hit the auction block, with only four public sales of this Jordan card since December 2022. This example includes a deep, Auto 10 signature and handwritten serial number. Only two of the PSA/DNA assessed copies of this card have earned a higher mark than this Pop. 3 PSA 7.
