Fleer/SkyBox drove the chase card train during the 1990s, piling more inserts into their products than competitors and utilizing foil flourishes and other design techniques rarely seen in the industry. One of the most prominent inserts in 1995 SkyBox Premium is the ten-card Meltdown set.
The checklist includes some of the NBA’s top scorers of the era, most notably Michael Jordan who had recently returned to the NBA following a brief retirement to pursue a baseball career. The cards seem to liken the NBA’s strongest scorers to one of the world’s strongest metals, featuring an electrifying all-foil front that shows a melting blue liquid cascading down a wall. While not blue in its molten form, steel turns blue when heated to about 600 degrees Fahrenheit, suggesting the NBA’s leading offensive talents can melt down their opponents when they catch a blue-hot scoring streak.
The condition-sensitive Meltdown inserts fell 1:54 Series 2 packs (or 1:48 jumbo packs), making it the scarcest set from either series.
Of the more than 1,050 copies of the card assessed by PSA, just 17 have received Gem Mint 10 grades.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 03/30/2026.
