On November 30, 1996, Michael Jordan hit a jumper with 29 seconds left in a game against the San Antonio Spurs to become the second-fastest player to reach 25,000 points in his career. He needed 35 points in the game to reach the milestone, and after hitting a 3-pointer with 3:10 to play to move within one shot of the plateau, he missed four straight field goals before connecting as time ran down. “It felt good,” Jordan said. “It felt just like 24,000. It’s been a fabulous career for me. I’m looking for more milestones and the next 25,000.” Upper Deck commemorated the moment in its inaugural edition of its technologically advanced UD3 product by including Jordan in the 1996 UD3 Court Commemorative Autographs set. Jordan and three other players signed cards that came out in April 1997, but pulling one from a pack became a challenge for collectors—as Upper Deck inserted one every 1,500 packs (or an average of once every 250 boxes for each player).
