In 2013, Panini Creative Director Brandon Lesley contacted Hungarian illustrator Gyula Nemeth to draw the NBA players selected for a 20-card insert for Panini’s Innovation basketball set. Nemeth responded by creating one of the most unforgettable card series in industry history, the stunning pop art collection known as Kaboom! cards. Nemeth portrayed the players as comic book characters, with the reverse side of this card so nice that it could pass as the front. A combination of scarcity, unique typography, original illustrations, and high-flying dunking poses featured on each card in the series made it an instant classic. Kaboom! cards remain beloved – and extremely rare – to this day. Thousands of fans around the globe chase these case hits each year, with rare parallels such as Gold /10 printings eliciting elevated levels of excitement from those lucky to land them.
Those levels of excitement might've ticked a bit higher than usual when this huge Victor Wembanyama Gold /10 was pulled from a pack of 2024-25 Panini Revolution Basketball. The dynamic Kaboom! illustration style suits the towering Frenchman and his oversized presence on the court and in the collecting world.
