Willie McCovey was one of the most feared power hitters of his era, anchoring the middle of the San Francisco Giants’ lineup for much of his 22-year Major League career. A six-time All-Star, McCovey was the 1959 National League Rookie of the Year and the 1969 NL Most Valuable Player.
He finished his career with 521 home runs and more than 1,550 RBIs, ranking among the all-time leaders at the time of his retirement. Known for his towering drives into the right-field waters at Candlestick Park—an area now famously called “McCovey Cove”—he helped lead the Giants to multiple postseason appearances, including the 1962 World Series.
Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986, McCovey’s legacy endures as a symbol of power, consistency, and quiet leadership both on and off the field.
His vibrant 1960 Topps Baseball rookie card includes the Rookie Cup, helping it stand out even further. This remarkable copy is one of just 30 copies to receive a Mint PSA 9 grade without any qualifiers. Despite inspecting nearly 7,150 copies, there are no Gem Mint PSA 10s.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 03/02/2026.
