Among the first Pokémon cards ever released, Topsun cards were released in Japan by Top-Seika in packs of their chewing gum in the late 1990s. Collectors would receive two cards randomly inserted inside their packs of gum featuring artwork by legendary Pokémon illustrator Ken Sugimori. Featured here, is the Pikachu Holofoil card, which is one of the most sought after cards in the set.
These cards were printed on stock similar to a sticker rather than the normal cardboard cardstock used on most Pokémon cards. As a result, these cards are much more condition sensitive, and finding one in perfect condition is next to impossible today. Of the more than 230 copies graded by PSA, this is one of just 15 Pikachu Holofoil cards to receive a Gem Mint 10 grade.
1997 Topsun Holofoil cards such as this Pikachu are also extremely sought after because of how difficult they were to pull—1:40 packs. Combine that with their condition sensitive nature and it's easy to understand why top-grade copies rarely surface.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 12/09/2025.
