In 2003-04, Upper Deck stunned basketball card collectors with the release of Exquisite Collection. “(The price of) Exquisite was met with a lot of resistance,” said Karvin Cheung, who conceptualized the brand. “I even had feedback meetings with a lot of stores. A lot of local card shops were like, ‘You are absolutely insane and crazy. You’re going to kill the Upper Deck brand.’ Everyone just trashed it. ...
