The late 1990s redefined rare cards. While an increasing number of products were starting to use serial numbers, it was also a period where rarity had to be calculated using pack odds. 1997-98 Fleer Ultra Basketball Ultrabilities Superstar is one such set. The chances of pulling one of these cards was 1:288 Series 1 packs. But that's just part of the reason why they're so scarce. The checklist has 20 cards, putting it on the larger side compared to a lot of other insert sets from the period. That means it could take 5,760 for the Ultrabilities Superstar Michael Jordan to surface.
1997-98 Fleer Ultra Ultrabilities cards come in three levels. Basic versions are easy pulls at 1:4 packs. Next are Ultrabilities All-Star, which jump to 1:36 packs. The die-cut Ultrabilities Superstar are by the toughest and are 72 time more rare than the base versions.
