Ray Bourque laced up his skates for 22 NHL seasons, outlasting many of his peers as he racked up more than 1,600 games as a standout defenseman. And for 22 seasons, Bourque landed as one of the top seven defensemen in postseason voting for the Norris Trophy. He won it five times, the fourth-most in history, and tallied 19 top-five finishes during his unprecedented streak. His 410 goals, 1,169 assists, and 1,579 points rank first among defensemen in NHL history, and only Gordie Howe (21) earned more All-Star selections than Bourque (19). Bourque debuted as an 18-year-old in October 1979 after the Boston Bruins made him the eighth overall selection in the draft. His career ultimately spanned four decades, culminating with the only Stanley Cup of his career with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001.
Two decades earlier, he made his cardboard debut, appearing in the 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee set. Bourque's rookie card remains iconic among hockey card collectors.
